Continuing to train as you age may be the most important thing you do. Fight the decline.

COACHES: The title 'Coach” is a privilege. You have both a great opportunity and responsibility. Don't ever take it for granted. With great power comes great responsibility. You have an amazing opportunity to influence so many people. Be a positive leader. Stay encouraged.

- do you know what to do with an actual 'talented' young player?

You know the kid I mean.

The one who walks in - 12/13 years of age - everything is easy for them- great vision - good skills - scores points almost at will - seems to have more time than the other

I retired at 35 after working a 14-year career. From the moment I set foot in an office, I learned the hard way how f-ed up a lot of our society is.

Here are 12 uncomfortable facts about life I learned the hard way.

Coaching has changed!

It's not about meetings.

It's not about long video analysis sessions with players.

It's not about workshops.

This generation of players do not care how much you know, how impressive your technology is or how much money you spend on training centres.

Getting stronger is:

10% programming
10% coaching
80% showing up and doing the work consistently for months

There's no shortcut

If your coach holds you accountable, you are VERY fortunate. A lot of coaches accept their players doing whatever they want, whenever they want with no consequences. Discipline/responsibility/accountability are life prep! If your coach cares that much, you’re lucky so respect it!

Leonardo da Vinci once said, 'Simplicity is the ultimate sophistication.' He was definitely just referring to letting your kids go to the playground every day with a bike, a ball, and friends...rather than signing them up for 8u travel ball.

I often hear people say “I’m training smarter not harder!” But look at the graph on the right - higher training loads are associated with lower injury risk! This is the true paradox because it goes against everything the textbook tells us.

Training harder is training smarter!!

Strength and conditioning develops grit, hard work, sense of team, and self confidence. Can't teach those via lectures, must work together to develop.

Another study showing that unilateral training was not equal to but better than bilateral. Not sure how many of these we'll need before people catch on.
