I’m so glad someone wrote this.

My mother died in 2016, in a very similar way. Her death certificate also says sepsis. It might even say HIV-related, but the truth is that it was poverty and inequity and it’s one of the things that motivates me in all of the work I do.

This isn't a breakup bill. It would actually probably help Ticketmaster, by making it impossible for bands and independent venues to avoid working with Ticketmaster. This is what happens when people try to write legislation without talking to artists or independent venues.

Every single conversation I’ve ever had with Mr. Washington and Janis Ware has lasted longer than I planned for it to and I’m so thankful for that because every conversation was abundant with laughter, insight, wisdom, and kindness.

May his spirit rest in peace and power.

A well resourced BIPOC journalism ecosystem is a journalism issue, sure.

But it’s also a civic participation issue, an economic justice issue, a public health issue, a culture issue, a narrative infrastructure issue. And the list goes on because those things impact so much more.

My creative practice is one of the things that keeps me grounded and open enough to show up for the rest of the work I need to do in the world. 💖

Great point by Alicia Bell at Knight Foundation session.

'I get to work with a lot of winners daily but a lot of underinvested winners.'

Truth. Hard truth. That's the key.

Word In Black member New York Amsterdam News gets a shoutout in Alicia Bell’s opening remarks: They have archives because they have been there for a long time documenting the Black community in NYC. They have sustained and persisted against racism.
