For open monographs, collective library subscription is the key: these initiatives don’t demand extra funding, undervalue publisher input or create divisions, say Anthony Cond (Liverpool University Press) and Jane Bunker (@CornellPress).

This was a wonderful event to be part of, and enormous credit and thanks to the organising team at Zadar and OPERAS -- huge amounts of hard work will have gone into making it such a success! 👏👏👏

Agree with this. I think one factor behind author reluctance to publish OA (one of many) is that these issues aren't talked about enough (and authors in secure employment at universities are protected from at least some of them).

Dr Linda Porter Thank you for raising this. So many academic books are way beyond my price range and my local library, now run by a charity, can’t always access them either.

Dr Linda Porter I agree Linda. I’m not an academic and there are books out there I want to read, but I cannot justify the price to myself to buy them.

Dr Linda Porter Great point Linda, thank you for raising it. I was lucky enough to be gifted an academic text last year that I desperately wanted to read but was out of my price range. Surely, more people would read them if they were affordable.
