At United Nations Geneva, World Health Organization (WHO) today briefed on the situation in #Yemen , where 18M people need healthcare, and only half of all health facilities are still functioning.

United Nations Geneva For years, #Yemen has suffered from conflict and, increasingly, disease: the worst cholera outbreak in modern times, diphtheria, dengue, measles, malaria, the re-emergence of #polio , and now #COVID19 . For people with chronic conditions, treatment is limited.

In 2020, over 160K children in  #Yemen  have had access to nutritional screening, with an immediate referral of  #wasting , found in almost a 1/4 of them. This service is provided through WHO Yemen's  #Nutrition   Surveillance System supported by World Bank.

WHO & partners work in an extremely difficult operational environment in #Yemen to reach children suffering from #malnutrition . In 2019 & 2020, 30 new Therapeutic Feeding Centers (TFC) were established increasing the total functional TFCs to 83.

A 4-day dengue control campaign covering the 8 districts of Aden city was launched today by health authorities with the support of WHO Yemen& KSrelief. The campaign will provide direct protection to 430Kpeople and indirectly to the 1.7 M total population of Aden city.

As of 12 September, the number of reported confirmed #COVID -19 cases in #Yemen had reached 2,013 with 583 associated deaths and 1,213 recoveries.
Over the past week, 51 new confirmed cases, 16 deaths, were reported.
