This designation will draw more research, funding, and advancement towards prevention, treatment, and curing the many varied types/reasons for chronic pain.

making pain medication harder to get in hospitals does NOT prevent addiction, it just oppresses the already oppressed. short term use of opioids in hospital (as for sickle cell) isn't a major factor in addiction risk. not treating these patients is just racist, not protective.
