Excellent webinar with Phepson Angus yesterday . If you are interested in cattle breeding you need to hear him. The work of South Africa’s most famous geneticist Jan Bonsma unpinned a lot of what Rob said. I would hazard most uk beef farmers haven’t heard of Bonsma, but need to!

I won’t be attending any of the unfocused farmer demos in London. I understand commodity farmers issues with supermarkets. My “protest“ started 8 years ago by deciding to stop supplying them and sell progeny from 90 sucklers direct and we are nearly there. It is an option

Calving now in full swing. Hopefully these will be out soon 🤞 41 in this bunch. Using Stabilizer and Phepson Angus Angus sires on crossbred cows.

Floods have receded and what’s revealed is a bit of a mess. So those docks grew under water. What a plant. On the good side lots of bird life including Great White Egret

Used a rather wet miserable day to bolus and check over 120 cattle, this lot throughly enjoyed a trot down the road and as normal went for the ivy on the wall and hedge. Not just a nibble but gorging themselves.

Home collected Devils bit scabious starting to germinate well. Sewn dec 12th. Plug planting is a very valid technique for meadow restoration especially with long lived perennial hay meadow plants.

bonus pics, feed for the dairy cows here at Waterhay, and calves being loaded for Chippenham mkt at Park. That fibreglass top was a major upgrade from canvas and ugly that it is adorned all our later mini’s. This is a tiny amount of a large archive, that we are so lucky to have

Next the slides took us to haymaking. Loving the neat stacks for the Perry loader and 9 high is comendable. The family always had mini pickups until I was about 10, so nice to see. That field was dug for gravel and now a nature reserve 2/3

Dad’s 75th birthday yesterday so we had a farm slideshow. He took us back to the late 60’s and early 70’s. Unloading clay land drains and putting them in. Check out the elms. He’s a great photographer and the image quality on the big screen was ace. 1/2
