I haven’t been able to stop thinking about this poem since reading it on poetryisnotaluxurys feed yesterday.

This is a brilliant idea. If we weren’t leaving Louisiana I’d want to take this on!

In the wake of the Civil War, Black people throughout the South founded autonomous communities. Today many of those freetowns are gone. And the ones that are left are fighting for their survival.

Louisiana's new maternal mortality data is out and it is more of the same bad news.

Three striking findings:

1. Deaths overall among pregnant people are *UP*. Ratio jumped from 101.5 per 100,000 births in 2017-2019 to 143.3 per 100,000 births in 2020.
