Having solved (I hope) the problems with institutional log ins, the paywall has now been restored to British History Online.

It is also now possible for individual subscribers to log in to BHO with either username or email address.

My arguments about local petitioning come from a dataset of about 3,800 of these manuscripts submitted to Justices of the Peace, which we gathered over several years. Nearly 1,500 of them have been transcribed and published #OpenAccess on British History Online: british-history.ac.uk/series/english…

This feels like such a regressive step - losing a brilliant, unified resource, and returning to searching individual databases (including two subscription-only services, one from Proquest and the other from Gale, natch)
