The United Nations in #Afghanistan expresses serious concern that female national UN staff have been prevented from reporting to work in Nangarhar province.
We remind de facto authorities that United Nations entities cannot operate and deliver life-saving assistance without female staff.
Today world celebrates progress on gender equality. Afghanistan marks 1 year since girls were banned from going to high school; 3 months since women were banned from working for NGOs; 18 months of banning women from participating in all aspects of public life. #InHerWords .
#Psychosocial support is as life-saving as food, water and shelter in a humanitarian response. Dr. Yadgaar is at the zero point camp in Spin Boldak supporting UNFPA's psychosocial services for women returning to #Afghanistan and to their communities.

Great news. Embassy of Japan in Afghanistan will support the continued services of 29 Family Health Houses and strengthen emergency referral for mothers and newborns in Helmand. Our gratitude to the govt of #Japan for supporting UNFPA's humanitarian work in #Afghanistan bit.ly/3jidk50
We deploy mobile teams to help people in hard-to-reach areas of Afghanistan, esp women & girls to have access to health services. Through the support of the Govt of #SouthKorea 🇰🇷 to our mobile teams, we reached 23,000+ Afghans in October.
Women form the backbone of families and communities. In times of #emergencies , their contributions become even more vital.
For a more effective humanitarian response, we must harness the strengths of women - the caregiver of families and communities in the midst of crises.
It is #HumanRightsDay . Let us continue working to uphold the basic rights of women and girls affected by the humanitarian crisis in #Afghanistan . Their safety, dignity and health must be protected at all costs.
We were at the Spin Boldak border of #Afghanistan and Pakistan last week to distribute blankets and tarpaulin sheets to female returnees to help them and their families comfortably settle into their shelters on their return during the winter season.
We will strive to uphold the inherent dignity and human rights of women and girls in #Afghanistan while working with them as active partners in our efforts to achieve universal access to reproductive health and rights.
