We have wonderful news! There isn’t just one new harlequin lamb at the zoo, there’s TWO.

Joining Bobbin & the rest of the flock is Sage, who is just 3 weeks old! According to keepers, the lambs have boundless energy. Next time you visit, look for them in the Children’s Zoo!

With Zookeeping 101, teens will enjoy an inside look at zookeeper & animal care careers. Participants get early access to the zoo, learn about animal husbandry, explore the exhibits, & meet a small ambassador animal.

It’s official! Our new harlequin lamb has been named Bobbin. She was born on Friday, January 26 to first-time mother, Thimble. It was hard to choose just a few photos of her to share, but here are some special highlights from our team, including one with Senior Keeper Tumeca.

We are saddened to report that Flaco, the Eurasian eagle owl discovered missing from Central Park Zoo after his exhibit was vandalized just over a year ago, is dead after an apparent collision with a building on West 89th Street in Manhattan. bit.ly/3I9o3b8

Fly river turtles are also known as pig-nosed turtles because of their elongated snouts. The pig-nose acts like a snorkel that allows them to take a breath at the surface of the water while the rest of the body remains submerged, reducing their exposure to potential predators.

Feel the burn! This is a short video of our Southern three-banded armadillo “Leonard” on his specially designed exercise wheel. According to Keeper Bianca, it's a great tool to provide him some additional healthy exercise.

This school break, come and get friendly with our mob of banded mongoose. While some mongoose species are solitary, banded mongoose live in large groups with complex social structures.

Due to inclement weather, the zoo will be closed on Tuesday, February 13.

Frosty temperatures won’t get our Pacific common eiders in a flap! Eider down is well known for its insulating properties. These large sea ducks pluck some of their down to line their nests to keep their eggs warm in frigid Pacific coastal climates of Russia, Canada, and Alaska.
