Raise your hand if you think Scholastic's CEO, Peter Warwick, should donate his $1.25m annual bonus to the fight against censorship-- maybe even directly to educators and librarians actually fighting this fight.

(Don't worry he'll still have $2m of his yearly salary left)

Or…here’s a thought….you offer the titles to all states and BACK THE PEOPLE FIGHTING BOOK BANS. Your solution (which isn’t a solution) is allowing them to dictate what is considered literature appropriate for kids.

When you start removing content that book banners want removed so you don't have legal trouble, you are quite literally doing their work for them. You are holding the door open and inviting them in.

This statement suggests Scholastic only has 2 options, but here’s a 3rd. They could choose to LEAD, & be on the right side of history, by refusing to enable these discriminatory legislations. BRAVERY is hard. True ALLYSHIP requires action. I’m afraid this compromise is neither.

So Scholastic has a No Diversity Option and Librarians have to Opt In to get diverse books now. Talk to me, folks. Other Options for Book Fairs? Happy to retweet.
