At their peak there were around 3000 sure start centres - a one stop shop for under 5s and parents - more than a thousand were closed in post 2020 austerity - others folded into other services. Now we have long term Institute for Fiscal Studies research that they paid for themselves

Year 1 pupils from 18 primary schools have been involved in reading the nominated books. It was great to join the children & author Dan Worsley, who entertained us all with his storytelling skills.

So, as you may have seen today, an advert for a reboot of a children's book branded a disability as 'disgusting'. Plenty of discourse already about why this is awful, so rather than add more here's a thread of some books with excellent representation that you could enjoy instead.

Personally, working with the children will always be the best part of writing the books. Maybe that’s just the teacher in me.

Biggest single difference in our school was when the teachers started talking about books and reading brilliant books to their class.

It’s not just a book…it’s a collective adventure together.

I loved reading these, and even attempted to make a few of my own based on some my favorite franchises at the time.
