This year, in honor of Darien Library’s 130th Anniversary, we are hoping to raise $130,000! Join us on Wednesday, May 22nd for our sixth annual 1894 Day of Giving festivities. 🎉

Scared of snakes? No worries: This one’s a lizard! Unlike snakes, the slender glass lizard has blinking eyelids. It also has earholes, whereas snakes “hear” through vibrations. And while snakes can dislocate their jaw bones to swallow large prey whole, this lizard can't.

From restoring wetlands and building new parks to reconnecting wildlife habitat and expanding access to the outdoors, the 'America the Beautiful' initiative is accelerating conservation efforts across the country.

Located in Olympic National Park in Washington, the Hoh Rain Forest has a lush and green canopy with mosses and ferns covering the surfaces. Within this enchanting forest, visitors can see some of North America’s giant trees and a wide variety of wildlife.

Have you ever seen the ring-tailed vontsira? Found in the forests of Madagascar, this carnivore weighs ~2 lbs (900 g) and feeds on insects, eggs, fish, small mammals, and more. The ring-tailed vontsira is an agile critter, an excellent climber, and is known to be playful.

On International Day of #HumanSpaceFlight , we celebrate the stellar feats of the past and look to the future. The era of human spaceflight began today in 1961 when Yuri Gagarin became the first person in space.

Behold the dazzling carpet chameleon! This Madagascan reptile can grow ~9.8 in (25 cm) long. Males are territorial, intimidating rivals with displays that include hissing, body flexing, & color changing. This critter uses a sticky, projectile tongue to snatch unsuspecting prey.
