On April 10, a Puyuma Express hit a falling rock and derailed (Fig. (b)). The aftershock of 0403 EQ triggered the rockfall. The investigation at the nearby site on April 3 shows that the upper slope remains unstable and has significant deposits (Fig. (a)).

Dave Petley I just wanted to contextualise what this driver did (and what allowed them to do it) by presenting a graphic that contains all the linked elements to be considered when designing an effective hazard warning system (paper is flood related but EQ will be similar).

This video is fascinating. The driver of a car in #Taiwan gets warning of an #earthquake and takes appropriate action, stopping in a rockfall shelter. And what a good job they did, as rockfalls inundated the road.
Early warning systems save lives, so long as you have a plan.
