“More than 40% of DC public school students are chronically absent. This is our children’s version of “quiet quitting. We cannot overcome chronic absenteeism if we do not attend to student’s mental health needs.”

“We need more support from DBH & SBMH professionals than ever before and we need the funding to back it up. By receiving mental health services in school, students will be able to get the necessary mental health help they so desperately need.”

Without specialized school programs like the ones at Bard High School Early College, DC, my daughter may not have had the opportunity to start college with an Associates degree. It has made college more financially accessible for our family.

My son will ride the metro to his friends stops to help them feel safer. But who is riding with him? Safe Passage for our students is so critical, not just after school but into the evening hours as students are in activities and some work.

As elected officials, we are indebted to you, our students. Your voices are key. We know safety is critical. This generation handles so much and they are resilient and brilliant. It is our time to do our job with this budget.

We did manage to get in a lot of the priorities in this budget because of PAVE’s advocacy — safe passage and OST. We tried to put as much money as we could directly into schools.

Thank you DC Deputy Mayor for Education for your constant willingness to sit, hear and partner with us.

There should be 4 SROs that circulate between schools. They help to create a safe learning environment. It would be great to have retired police officers become SROs who can help fill the roles.

The key thing we need is safe passage for our students. We need real safety supports. Our students should be focused on academics not worried about traveling to and from school safely.

As a parent using the MySchool System is overwhelming and I am an educator. We need $750K to get a navigator system to support our students and families.

“We are hurting from our school resource officers being ripped out of our community. My students advocate for their return b/c they have an unmatched level of pride for their jobs that we don’t always see with our safe passage ambassadors.”

“I want all people who use the metro to feel safe. I recommend metal detectors to be added to detect people who have weapons or anything harmful on them before they get on the metro.”
