19:48 GMT this evening in Ballybofey we heard a scraping sound like snow sliding off the roof. I checked the seismometers (DL02 on the SiS network; R0392 on the Community Seismology Programme, both coordinated by DIAS Geophysics ) and found these. Very local, P-S interval = 1 s.
A magnitude 1.1 earthquake occured yesterday the 2nd of May 2024 at 19:48pm local time near Ballybofey in Northern Co. Donegal Ireland 〰️ This earthquake was recorded by a Quake Shake Raspberry Shakeseismometer in St.Columbas Secondary School Brendan O'Donoghue
It was great to showcase the latest results of the DIG project (dig-geothermal.ie). The field trip to Mallow to visit the warm springs was also fantastic and showed the potential for geothermal in Ireland!
