It's actually interesting that there's a huge reduction in availability of locum roles in Australia this year (even for the more limited first part of academic year) due to how many doctors have come over from the UK.

It's like a tidal wave lol

This will come as absolutely no surprise to anyone working in emergency care. A few thoughts on why things have changed so much over the last decade (and why ‘attendance numbers’ are not comparable). 🧵

Tonight’s looks at the care patients received when treated in private hospitals. Without commenting on specific cases, I set out 3 reasons we would be concerned by a substantial increase in the proportion of NHS patients treated in private hospitals. A thread >>

Did you know?

'Non-white' BME representation in medicine? 46.8%

Even stevens at 'trainee' level

And then it slides away

Any initiatives to tackle this?
Of course not

“It was a massive effort to help tackle our waiting list.”

Shout out to the BHRUT NHS 🏥 women’s health team, who completed 60 operations in just six days during their gynaecology week! 💪

They performed 38 major surgeries and 22 robotic procedures to help cut their waiting list.

Pay for highest paid/most skilled public sector workers (doctors, experienced teachers etc) has been cut drastically. Public sector diverging ever further from private sector. Papering over the cracks by bringing in more from abroad. Not sustainable.

On January 6th, a friend texted me. He'd found an injured dog by a garbage dump in Bangalore. It couldn't walk, it couldn't even stand. Most of its fur was gone, it was covered in sores. He didn't have the time to help it but sent me this picture. 🧵👇🏿

So, the current advice appears to be as follows:

1) Practices must not use PAs as if they are GPs.

And

2) They will not get funding for PAs if unless they are used as if they are GPs.

And

3) There is still NO additional money to employ any doctors.
