How it started v how it's going 💥

This past weekend, Josh Kerr claimed a stunning world 3000m indoor gold medal in Glasgow with 7:42.98 🥇

His last indoor 3000m in Glasgow prior to the World Indoors was in 2015 when Kerr clocked 9:11.76 at a BMC event aged 17 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

Danny is a good example of ‘Coach as Systems Thinker’ — which coincidentally was the topic of my newsletter to the ALTIS community today.

You can read it here, if you missed it —>

I told Josh about these 2 UFC, one had a doping history, never banned but cloudy. The other was clean.
The doped one was “better” but the longer the fight went on the clean athlete started to break the will of the other fighter. Clean athletes are champions. Dopers are weak.

Thanks Steve Magness
Another point is clean athletes are actual champions. Actual champions accept losing. Cheaters by definition do not accept the rules of the game. They bend and break them. Rules of the game are someone wins, someone loses.

This week thanks to Danny Mackey's work with Josh Kerr, I can confidently say you can be the world champion doing things the right way.

How do I feel so confident?

And just to be clear, I think there are many other world champs in track and field who have done it the right way.

I use Kerr as an example, because, Mackey may be the 1st coach who put his $ where his mouth is, risked it all for clean sport, and coached a world champ.

In grad school, my professor, Vernor Møller, a well known anti-doping researcher asked the class:

“Can you be the best in the world without cheating?”

He said, No. I argued, yes.

He didn't budge, gave me a B on my 10 page argument

.Jesse Williams grew up going to Bulls games entranced by the lights, music and action. He wants track & field fans to leave meets feeling the same.

2 LA-area pro meets are attempting to revive the meet format — and, in the process, the sport’s popularity:
