One doctor takes their life every three weeks, Victoria Atkins.

How can you possibly countenance slashing psychological support services for a deeply traumatised post-Covid NHS workforce?

It’s pure vindictiveness.

This is called using taxpayers’ money to fund and the PM’s time for the Conservative election campaign. It is not allowed.

As a psychiatrist I am grateful to psychiatrists like George Kirov who have made it possible for me to safely have ECT. Which has probably saved my life on more than one occasion. And has let me be happy.

Prof Colin R Melville of the GMC has written this in a recent blog about future education &, as a card-carrying educationalist, I disagree vehemently

The last 50 yrs of educational research tells us a very clear message

The single most important determinant of expertise is knowledge

Dear 🇬🇧,

Please read - this NHS scandal potentially affects you all.

🧵 Having studied the data, just released, from the Royal College of Physicians members' survey on PAs, I couldn't be more disgusted by the lack of probity, honesty & fairness of those who lead my Royal College. 1/n

There’s a whole group of us former PAs now at med school, we’d love to be consulted on this stuff. We have valuable insight - use it.

The skillset of a physician assistant is a subset of the skillset of a doctor. In other words you don't have an overlap of skills, but rather a watering down of skills, which lowers the standard of patient care.

People who get the blame for the dire state of crowded A&Es who’s fault it isn’t:
-Busy, overworked GPs
-Patients attending ‘inappropriately’
-Patients who are drunk

People who should get the blame for crowded A&Es who’s fault it is:
-The government

“Let PAs take a simple history, examine & then discuss with a GP”

Short 🧵 to explain why this wouldn’t work…

GPs are highly trained diagnosticians. With no immediate investigations to hand, the diagnostic skill we use IS history taking & examination.

This is a shocking read. The hospitals doing this should be investigated by Care Quality Commission .. they are putting patients at risk. It isn’t acceptable to think that having a physician associate with two years experience carrying an emergency/ crash bleep is a substitute for a dr.

Utterly shameful that qualified GPs can’t find work whilst there is ringfenced funding for practices to hire non-doctors

A waste of 10+ years of education and training in favour of workers with perhaps 2 years’ accredited medical training… a loss to the taxpayer

What have we done to medical students? Great commentary on Dinesh Bhugra’s new book and the crisis it has highlighted. What are we going to do about this? thelancet.com/journals/lance…

The government have reduced 2200 GPs over the last decade

Patients can’t see their GPs

Yet we have newly qualified GPs driving for Uber UK as they struggle to get NHS GP jobs, especially those that are worth the risk/reward

Am I hearing this right? Royal College of Anaesthetists

The Hospital of St.Cross in Rugby (part of UHCW NHS Trust) is using a non-medically trained anaesthesia associate on an anaesthetic on-call rota in place of a trained Anaesthetic Doctor
