If only UKRI followed this approach with grant size - instead of 5 X £20m grants (far too big for any real coordination and therefor a lot of wasted money) let’s have 100 x £1m or 20 x £5m. It would do wonders for innovation and diversity.

This row further underscores what a remarkable job John Deben did. Climate is such a complex issue, economically, philosophically, and politically, that it is almost impossible to find someone who won't be accused of bias. theguardian.com/environment/20…

Totally agree. Evidence is piling up that this small group of like-minded people on the merry-go round of UK’s co’s/regulated/regulators/non execs do a dreadful job for UK plc and society. How people get these appts; matching honours; salaries; & what hrs they work needs scrutiny

📯Tomorrow, the Viking Link subsea power cable between the🇬🇧UK &🇩🇰Denmark, the world’s largest interconnector, will be launched.
The link would make the two European nations more interdependent. The project represents a new test for the feasibility of the energy transition

As IPCC Chair I stated that the scientific community is ready to support the outcomes of in shaping based on science. But science by itself is no substitute for action.

It is bad that unis (& academics) still take money from FF Cos. However, unis are incentivised to max income via their regulation - the research excellence framework. Govt should exclude FF money from the REF (& preferably entirely reset it). Govt is at least = responsible.

Redcar heating trial update. 'On Friday, the Government reiterated that it would not progress the trial in without community support' - but locals feel aggrieved and are turning against it. Inevitable, TBH.

The root problem is 1. Codes & 2. The reg. inability for direction from Ofgem or the ESO. How to sort out energy governance for long term is set out by IGov projects.exeter.ac.uk/IGov The Labour Party Ed Miliband tobiasgarnett must stop fudging and start leading (if they get the chance)
