ONS data suggests average private rent in Northern Ireland increased by 10.1% in the 12 months to January 2024, up from 9.3% in December 2023. This is the highest annual rise since this series began in 2016.

Since Feb the agenda has been dominated by severely underfunded public services.

Costs for big-ticket projects have spiralled. Policy ambitions like tackling soaring childcare costs demand extra funding.

Yet there's no sign of a coherent strategy from Stormont.
