Today we carried out the 1st coring of the #TAN2315 trip. We recovered 6 cores around #Tuhua (Mayor Island), with one reaching a whopping 5.4m in length! We even spotted tephra around a few of them. Super excited for tomorrow when we get our first sneak peak into the split cores!

Super proud of Stephen Piva for just passing his doctoral exam with flying colours and defending his PhD thesis: “Environmental and Climatic Responses to Two Large Explosive Eruptions from Taupō Volcano, New Zealand”. A huge effort and great piece of work. Well done Dr Piva!

Make sure to walk your tsunami evacuation route on Shakeout / Tsunami Hīkoi Oct 19th. Long or Strong, Get Gone! Don’t wait for anything after that large earthquake every minute and metre evacuated is precious.

After many many hours of hard work, not just from myself, I'm stoked that Ruapehu now has a complete ring of SO2 gas flux monitoring stations (scanning DOAS) as the third #ruapehu site at #turoa skifield became fully operational this afternoon (It's the little black tube!)
