Canadair firefighting planes standing by at Olbia airport in Sardinia, where there is an extremely high risk of wildfire.

Sardinia - 45c, struggling vineyards, workers not able to complete shifts, hospitals on alert, all in a region used to heat. This heatwave has been brutal and won’t end until at least Saturday.

That was a day and a half…. Athens and surrounding region still sweating in the a#heatwave … beyond the tourists and the closure of the Acropolis there are firefighters praying for rain and fishermen with no customers. “The heat is too much even for us here in Greece”

Fisherman in Varkiza port - told us the heat means fewer customers and spoiled fish. Some of them packing up and going home for the day - an example of the economic impacts of extreme heat.

The Acropolis in Athens is closed until 5pm today because of the heat, according to the Ministry of Culture in Greece.

Athens is uncomfortably hot but the tourists still arrived at the Acropolis in droves.
