If - as expected - Andy Street loses then it means Ben Houchen is the only elected Conservative mayor left in England.

Result imminent - but both Labour and the Conservatives briefing Richard Parker has beaten Andy Street to become West Midlands Mayor.

Labour almost neck-and-neck in the area it won no seats in 2019

The independent, pro-Palestine candidate Akhmed Yakoob has done *very well* in Birmingham, which has a 29.9% Muslim population, according to census data.

Labour: 80,251
Conservative: 66,296
Yakoob: 42,953

Could be a few more hours before we get a result in the West Midlands Mayoral race, with a full recount taking place in Coventry.

But at the moment, Labour are feeling more optimistic than the Conservatives.

Everyone agrees it’s very close.

NEW: I’m told a full recount is set to take place in the Coventry district for West Mids Mayor.

Labour say it was Andy Street’s team requested the recount.

Sadiq Khan elected as London Mayor for a third term with a majority of more than 275,000 votes. He beats Conservative candidate Susan Hall by 11.1%.

His majority is up on 2021 - swing from the Conservatives to Labour 3.2%.

NEW: Senior Labour source says the Conservatives have asked for a recount in the West Midlands - which would suggest the Tories fear Andy Street may have lost.

I’m told fewer than 3,000 votes in it.

Exc- Labour’s director of campaigns Morgan McSweeney now believes Labour can win a majority with a 6 point lead - according to sources. While insiders on Tory side tell me their data suggests Starmer only needs lead of just over 5 points 1/ itv.com/news/2024-05-0…
