During our passage south along the Antarctic Peninsula conducting hydrographic survey operations, the Ship's Company enjoyed the opportunity to witness the stunning scenery and wildlife of the Lemaire Channel. Royal Navy #Antarctica
During our recent visit to South Georgia, Protector used her survey boat’s multibeam sonar to support UK Hydrographic Office and Government SGSSI work on the rapidly retreating Neumayer Glacier. The bright colours on the chart show how far our hydrographers surveyed beyond the charted limit.
A sailor who served in the previous HMS Protector (1965-67) kindly sent us some of his memorabilia. Now 80, Dave Stone was 1 of 7 sailors who climbed an iceberg 😳which overturned whilst they were on it, earning him this fantastic certificate after a lucky escape! #shipmates
