How have I never heard of this man?!

I’m a complete technology novice but my Apple Watch updated & now won’t count my steps or measure heart rate! When I go into settings, motion & fitness option-fitness tracking is greyed out

How do I fix this? I’ve tried all obvious things & can’t see any settings out of place!
