Primrose popping up everywhere Ordsall Hall in March. Closely related to cowslips, both were used in waters, conserves, and syrups to strengthen the stomach, aid digestion, and ‘gently provoke sleep’ according to Pechey’s Compleat Herbal of 1694. Time to get preserving them!
