'Loch Lomond and Ben Lomond’ by Horatio McCulloch, 1846.

McCulloch's dramatic, often romantic views did much to popularise Scottish landscape painting in the Victorian era.

See it in the Art Gallery University of Glasgow.

In addition to works of art and design from all over Africa, 'The Trembling Museum' features a number of historical musical instruments. One of the first objects visitors encounter in the exhibition is this rare 19th century memel kettle drum from southern Ghana.

It's probably still a bit chilly for painting 'en plein air', so here's 'Poppleton' of 1882 by Glasgow Boy Sir James Guthrie.

This informal study, painted near York, shows an artist at work with the necessary easel, umbrella and picnic hamper.
