If you're thinking 'what, just for holding up a sign?' the answer is yes, this doctor was imprisoned & dragged through misconduct process for holding a sign, because an oil company obtained an injunction forbidding protest near their site.
Fuck the UK's protest laws & fuck GMC

Actually unbelievable. First imprisonment for holding a sign, now professional misconduct despite exemplifying good medical practice 🤯Brave and principled doctors like Sarah Benn should be celebrated for taking action to protect public health.

This is completely out of order for GMC bbc.co.uk/news/articles/… if it fits the ‘rules’ the rules are wrong and must change. Government has hugely restricted the right to protest & there is no chance of this reducing public confidence, it’s a matter of conscience.

If doctors aren’t able to act in good faith to protect health, based on scientific evidence from The Lancet and more, then what are we good for?

This must be a tipping point. Utterly wrong that a professional body strikes off someone who’s acted with conscience on a strongly evidence based matter to protect public health. I’m shivering with distress as I read this while caring for my 2 grandchildren who want a future.

I urge health leaders to call this out.

Whistleblowing about the greatest health threat of the 21st century must not be viewed as “professional misconduct” for doctors.
