Duke admits 11% of the general applicants but 23% of legacy applicants—whose parents and grandparents parents were accepted during Jim Crow.

Duke didn’t even accept Black students until 1963. Now Black scholarships are banned but racist Jim Crow Legacy thrives.

This is America.

Historic Underfunding of HBCUs limit institutional financial aid

Scholarship Displacement at some HBCUs and PWIs sometimes prevents gaps from being filled

Sometimes they go where they can afford. If it’s HBCU great. If not then they have to go where they can afford

There’s an assumption I don’t push HBCUs here

I pay for the Black common app for my students to apply to HBCUs

Few questions for Making Caring Common , Natl Association for College Admission Counseling’s Character Focus Initative, American Talent Initiative

Are we making caring common if require SAT or ACT?

Does requiring SAT or ACT help recognize & assess character attributes?

Is SAT / ACT expanding access & opportunity for lower-income students?

Why is this me when “La Chona” comes on?

Preparing for an SAT or ACT test doesn't make a student more prepared for college.

It makes the student more marketable for the college.

Please stop calling me old.

Alternate theory: Colleges are re-embracing the SAT now (including Harvard's strange late reversal), because the inevitable drop in diversity that results from using them can be blamed on the SCOTUS ruling instead of the tests or other things like legacy/donor preferences.

Please stop trying to change the 40+ colleges & universities everyone keeps talking about.

They’ve shown us who they are. Believe them. Boycott them.

It’s time to elevate & celebrate the other colleges, including community colleges to all students, parents, schools & employers.

Please nod along, people:

The colleges that have reinstated testing requirements = a meaningful trend that matters greatly.

All the other colleges that have gone test-optional and remain so = afterthoughts not worth mentioning.

While you were test-optional / test-free & ran your little reports on your class profiles—

did/do you hate those classes of students? Does it mean you failed for 2-4 years to make institutional priorities, is that what you’re saying by going back?🤔😶
