Mountain hares in the snow. A few more images from an exceptional day in the Cairngorms not long ago. Conditions were a dream - the best I've seen in several years.

A minute of joy courtesy of these little characters. Some of my favourite ever wildlife moments have been watching pine martens interact.

Despite the current mild conditions, we managed to photograph ptarmigan in the snow yesterday in the Northwest Scottish Highlands. It was a very small patch of snow, but enough! We spent ten minutes with the birds and then left them alone.

…and my second issue as Acting Editor of this mighty mountain magazine. An honour and a privilege to once again work with the best in British outdoor culture.

A big thanks for the response to this image. I haven't managed to get up in the high hills much this winter (so far), so this was a particularly special day.

We've had some brilliant conditions for mountain hare photography in recent weeks (as well as the big thaws and storms...). I'm flat-out running workshops and tours at the moment, but I've managed to process a few of my own images.

Winter light in the glens. This was a brilliant few minutes of photography, when a hard frost combined with low sunlight and dark approaching clouds to create great conditions. (Image taken on one of my recent Scottish Winter Wildlife Photography Tours).

What an exceptional couple of weeks it has been for photography here in the Scottish Highlands. Last week brought some of the best conditions I've seen for mountain hare photography in recent years.

Can anyone tell me why this badger looks quite like this? It appears to have substantially less fur than other badgers. It has been visiting one of my camera traps for a while now. Any thoughts would be much appreciated Badger Trust Mammal Society
