Medicaid waivers are typically promoted as a way to make the program's spending more cost-effective. But they are increasingly used by states to evade rules which constrain the program's costs.

The numbers for NY school spending have to be seen to be believed. $30,000 per pupil, almost double the national level. Total $76 billion is much higher than FL and TX despite fewer pupils. NYC is $36,000, while Chicago and LA are about $21,000. @ejmej empirecenter.org/publications/n…

Bet you didn't know that the Biden admin just finalized a rule for staffing at nursing homes that they think will cost $43 billion over the next decade. For perspective, that is almost as much as the CHIPS act cost and they did it with the stroke of a pen. public-inspection.federalregister.gov/2024-08273.pdf

Whenever a media story is framed as 'How did X get so partisan?' the actual story reads 'Why don't Republicans just agree to pass Democratic bills?' politico.com/news/2024/04/2…

The UK does in fact have the world's worst housing crisis:

Imagine how much you have to underbuild to achieve California housing costs on Mississippi incomes

I've haven't found anything comparable over the last two decades. The biggest grants to companies are research. The closest I've found is $300 mil for building the Miami tunnel, about 1/20th of the Micron grant. Anyone know of anything comparable, ever? usaspending.gov/award/ASST_NON…

Judge Glock Manhattan Institute As someone who has accepted voucher holders, I would never do it again. The damage they did to my property was devastating. Now I screen everyone's background and employment history carefully and rent out my units well below market rate, and I'm much better off.

I want to again point out the absurdity of just giving billions of dollars to a for-profit company in exchange for nothing, purely as a grant. rollcall.com/2024/04/25/mic…

The UK's CMA is suddenly treating Big Tech like monopolies in AI, despite acknowledging it's a hyper competitive industry. My latest for Times Business thetimes.co.uk/article/back-o…

This shows a common source of confusion. “Property” includes both housing and land. Policy allowing more development increases land values and decreases “housing costs.” The net effect is both better property investment and more affordable housing.

Government agencies need to be given clear standards to enforce by Congress.

Letting them move the goal posts and companies not being given a clear understanding of what is legal creates a totalitarian atmosphere where any politically inconvenient company can be found guilty.

Source of income discrimination laws are a well-meaning but counterproductive tool for helping low-income renters. In his latest Manhattan Institute report, Judge Glock illustrates the problems with SOI laws and maps out effective alternatives. manhattan.institute/article/costs-…

My latest report with Manhattan Institute, on 'Source of Income' discrimination laws, which mandate landlords accept people with housing vouchers. I show the research demonstrates small benefits and real costs. There are better ways to help voucher-holders. manhattan.institute/article/costs-…
