This piece makes many excellent points. Concern around assisted dying legalisation is valid and real, and deserves our deepest thought and scrutiny. Not snide ‘jokes’ about granny killers.

This⬇️
Around four in 10 (41%) think not enough NHS resources are allocated to palliative care, the survey also found.

Ethnic disparity & trust issue is shocking
22% of those from ethnic minority groups said they have not heard of palliative care

Thanks for sharing Prof Katherine Sleeman

65% of adults in the UK are worried about access to palliative care, a Nursing, Midwifery & Palliative Care at King's 💙 YouGov poll shows.

The findings also show disparities in knowledge around palliative care and between White and ethnic minority groups ⬇️

Dismissing legitimate concerns re safeguarding in relation to assisted dying proposals as 'pearl clutching' shows how some campaigners really don't understand how difficult safeguarding around this will be. It's horribly tone deaf.

This is something not often spoken about wrt assisted dying / assisted suicide. Our current law is not (as many assume) at one end of a spectrum. (whole thread is v interesting and helpful)

Do the public support assisted dying / assisted suicide?

In the latest Dignity in Dying poll:

35% ‘strongly support’ legalising Assisted Dying, 40% ‘somewhat support’

61% want Parliament to make AD legal

48% say AD should be available on NHS

43% want their MP to vote for AD

There is much I agree with here. Legalisation of assisted dying /assisted suicide would indeed be an immense change in the fabric of our society. We must scrutinise the potential harms and how to mitigate them, not sweep them under the carpet. Safety must be the highest priority.

If the Scottish Assisted Dying Bill passes, there will be places in the UK where people can access assisted dying, but not specialist palliative care.

Think about it.
