Parents with college-bound kids โ€” DC opened applications for tuition support through the DC TAG, DC Futures, and Mayorโ€™s Scholars programs. ๐ŸŽ“๐ŸŽ“๐ŸŽ“

The programs were delayed due to the federal governmentโ€™s FAFSA delays.

There's been a lot of attention in DC on a plan to pair Maury & Miner ES. DC Deputy Mayor for Education told Council of DC he is 'not recommending a flip-the-switch solution, but recommending a continued discussion.' Leaders considering a task force instead of merging ASAP. washingtonpost.com/education/2024โ€ฆ

This is infuriating and should greatly concern everyone living in the D.C. region.

The journalists at DCist are fiercely dedicated and produce some of the best (and most accessible) local reporting in the District.

Great Lauren Lumpkin piece looking at a divisive plan to integrate two D.C. elementary schools walking distance from one another with vastly different demographics washingtonpost.com/education/2024โ€ฆ

An excellent look at the plan stirring pushback that would combine two elementary schools on Capitol Hill and diversify them both via Lauren Lumpkin. Maury and Miner are within walking distance; could they form one community? wapo.st/3OIWnhe

Our community โ€” which is, btw, the nationโ€™s capital โ€” deserves a strong, well-resourced local news department with investment from the top.

As the great Mike Semel says: We are Americaโ€™s city desk.

Today Iโ€™m walking off the job with hundreds of my Washington Post colleagues because the company is breaking the law and bargaining in bad faith. Respect our picket line during our 24-hour strike by avoiding Washington Post journalism on Dec. 7.

After their children were killed, these D.C.-area mothers took their pain to the stage.

They had hoped if an audience could hear their stories, something in the community might change โ€” no more mothers crying over their dying sons.

๐ŸงตIn June, I and my colleagues survived a shooting at one of the most unlikeliest places -- a high school graduation in Richmond, Va. 7 people were shot. 2 died.

We were there reporting on, of all things, how Richmond's educators and students cope with community gun violence.

There's been a flurry of laws passed to restrict sex education. But in DC, public schools will soon be *required* to teach all students about menstruation starting in 4th grade. Fascinating story from Lauren Lumpkin washingtonpost.com/education/2023โ€ฆ

Class of '23 was the last class who experienced the entirety of the pandemic during high school. So it was important for Overlea High School to build relationships w/students. The schoolโ€™s spike in its grad rate was a sign that what they were doing was working.

This smoke and air quality is.... rough.๐Ÿ˜ท DCPS has canceled all outdoor activities at schools today, and we're seeing hazy conditions all across the area.

What's the air look like where you are?
