Work from our group MET in the Norges forskningsråd project #SIRANO (Sea Ice Retrieval and data Assimilation in Norway).

Marina assimilated 'Level-2' (swath-based) rather than 'Level-3' (daily mean) sea-ice concentration in a regional ocean/ice forecast model.

The same systemic issues that affected OpenSSL and led to heartbleed are at play here. Literally nothing has fundamentally changed. Why is a library linked to systemd, shipped on paid distros, only maintained by a single volunteer?

Over the last 2 years, our #satellite measurements of #Antarctic #seaice have recorded notably low figures, setting numerous records-low for monthly averages, as much as for minimum and maximum extent.

The #Arctic #seaice extent is still increasing for this winter season.

And with the forecast of temperatures being rather cold in regions of the ice edge, it will be interesting to see when we land on the annual maximum this year.
