History doesn’t look kindly on what Columbia did to their students in the 60s and it won’t look kindly on what they’re doing to them now.

I’m only a graduate student but the experience of seeing my students get arrested for a peaceful demonstration is really upsetting—I can’t imagine being an administrator and being like yeah send in the cops

I'm worried about students who don't have families, loved ones, and connections to help them make bail. you can send money to the jail support fund for Columbia students at bcabolitioncollective on v*nmo.

students are allowed to engage in political expression so long as it follows rules... got it! in other words, not really

i know everyone has said this a billion times before but it is so funny to me that campus activism is being treated as some new dangerous thing brought about by wokeness. wtf do you think campus life was like in the 60s and 70s lmao

I would hope that Columbia Faculty see their admin arresting their own students for peaceful protest as a red line. These students are in our care. Our primary responsibility as academics is to nurture their minds and protect them from oppression. Faculty must walk out now.

in college i was one of about a dozen students expelled the week before graduation for a peaceful protest against a white supremacist the school paid thousands of $ to come speak

the school downgraded the expulsions to suspensions ONLY bc faculty voted to boycott commencement

What the students at Columbia are doing right now, in the face of administrative abandonment, political persecution, and police repression, is unbelievably brave. The scenes from the quad have been making me tear up all day—each new image I see shows a larger crowd ❤️

perfect example of how training AI to give the types of responses humans trust and prefer isn’t effective because they lose all meaning coming from AI

I deeply hate this because my life has been more shaped by ACTUAL antisemitism than homophobia and transphobia combined, and whenever I try to talk about REAL antisemitism I now have to clarify that, no, I'm not referring to resisting to the violence of a foreign state.

thrilled to make my RogerEbert.com debut writing about a few body horror films of the 2020s & how they mirror the very real horrors of our current world 🫀
