The first AI-related state law passed this week. Definitely a key milestone in US AI policy, where there's been a lot of talk - bills, proposals and guidelines - out there but very little legislative action!

Anyone who cares about free speech & expression should be feeling cold blood in their veins as USG rushes to silence, censor, & brutalize those critical of Israel's extremist gov.

Bills like this are political weapons. Once forged, they will be wielded for much, much more.

The wild west phase of foundation models is almost over. Soon training sets will all be licensed content ( eg Reddit, FT, Springer) or verifiably open access open use. As with music streaming, next battle will be to see if creators can extract meaningful payment from publishers

ICMYI: Connecticut is closer to becoming the first state to make private companies consider the risks of the artificial intelligence products they sell to customers. Both tech lobbyists and civil society still have qualms about the bill.
