The same is true in universities - a minority of (high-ranking) academics are responsible for the vast majority of air-travel emissions; and yet, research finds that air travel does not influence professional success!

It's often claimed that 'aviation is only, like, 2% of emissions!' but actually considering it is so few people who do it, and the rate at which it is increasing, aviation contains a significant amount of warming risk (given the tiny amount of CO2 budget we have left...)

(For transparency - I have done some flying in my time, but since my knowledge of the climate crisis has caught up with me, I can no longer justify it in almost all instances. I haven't flown for work since 2018, and only very very occassionally fly to visit family)

Aviation is a perfect microcosm of a wider 'colonisation of the atmosphere', in which a minority of people spew emissions for luxury reasons, at the expense of the global majority.
