iPhone : Sir Patrick Vallance says R is at 0.7-0.9- "it could be much closer to 1 in some areas"

"Numbers are coming down at the moment but they're not coming down fast"

Somewhat different tone to that which we just got from PM...

iPhone : Wow. Boris Johnson bans CMO Chris Whitty and CSA Sir Patrick Vallance from giving their opinions on Dominic Cummings’ lockdown activities. Now we know why they were abruptly sent home from No10 on Monday instead of doing the press conference.

iPhone : What a man! To invent a ventilator that is being used to treat Covid patients, to speak "at least 8 languages" - and to be the father of a Hollywood superstar. Oh, and he made a film when he was 84 too.

iPhone : Watch Boris Johnson squirm when asked about female representation in coronavirus decision making by one of his own MPs.

iPhone : Been overwhelmed by all the kindness, messages - and support on here - and I’ve probably missed much of it. A big thank you from us all at #newsnight

iPhone : “You want to throttle (President Trump)? You want to put up a disclaimer underneath all of his videos? We will find a way to get our message through anyway” – 2020 Republican candidate for congress Errol Webber For Congress (CA-37) says it’s about cracking down on “any form of censorship” #Newsnight

iPhone : “It’s a very tough decision for the executives at Twitter… You didn’t think you were going to be in a situation where you had a pathological liar as the president of the US and now you have to sit there and measure and weigh through what he’s doing”

iPhone : So grateful to my friend and excellent colleague Katie Razzall for stepping in this evening . She did so because I asked for the night off -knowing tonight’s prog would be in the most excellent hands 🖐 #newsnight twitter.com/katierazz/stat…

iPhone : Still processing the fact that I said the president has no clue what he’s talking about on national television 😬 twitter.com/acyn/status/12…

iPhone : Sarah Cooper: I like the ability to sort of take off the emperor’s clothes, take away the podium and the people behind him nodding and the suit.. and just have the words there with my facial expressions so people can literally see he has no clue what he’s talking about

iPhone : Free theatre! In your living room.

Politics isn’t very dramatic right now, as we know. So I cannot tell you how excited we are to digitally revive THIS HOUSE, my play about the Really Quite Mad 1970s hung Parliament..

Watch along at 7pm tomorrow.

iPhone : Twitter fact checking a Trump tweet is an interesting development. It feels as though there is (finally) a limit being imposed. I would imagine that we are not that far from outright removal of tweets - not least as it benefits both parties for very different reasons

iPhone : In incremental-baby-steps regulation-of-the-internet news, overnight Twitter stuck a mild fact checking label on one of Donald Trump’s tweets. This will now prompt a six month culture war about left-wing bias at tech outlets and change no one’s mind. twitter.com/realdonaldtrum…

iPhone : Three out of four Tory MPs privately refuse to support PM’s decision to stand by Dominic Cummings, in ring round by whips and PM’s PPS. Nine Cabinet ministers also fail to make public statements of support for him.

iPhone : ‘He made those who struggled to keep to the rules feel like fools and has allowed many more to assume they can now flout them. The prime minister knows all this and has chosen to ignore it.’
