Pleased the NHS Confederation report I co-authored on NHS capital investment is now out. We forecast that, to raise NHS productivity growth to 2%/year and fix crumbling estate, the NHS needs an extra £6.4bn a year over the next 3 year spending review period 🏥

2/2 Is the explanation simply that the NHS doesn’t have the £ to invest in the technology which is helping other sectors ⬇️A&C roles or is there something else happening? I’m genuinely interested in hearing views. The increase since February 2020 (pre-pandemic) is over 10%

1/2 One of the mysteries of the modern world is why the number of A&C staff in the NHS continues to grow when in every other sector it is declining due to investment in technology. The latest workforce data (July 2023) shows it’s grown by 10,000 (5%) in a year at a cost of £250m

2/2 The people are some of the most friendly on earth. 3. The country employed 1000’s displaced from tourism during the pandemic to build public infrastructure so roads around Siem Reap are now better than the UK and a new airport opened last week. 4. A cold beer is only $0.5

What I learned in Cambodia 1/2. 1. It was the 1st country to have a public health system (circa 1170) 2. Covid has had a huge economic impact on a country heavily dependent on tourism. Even now tourist numbers are only 30-40% of what they were, come it’s amazing as the photo show

3/n in journey times between Hull and Leeds (10 minutes isn’t going to make a huge difference). Hull to Manchester journey time massively improved though so positive. No mention of connecting LeedsBradfordAirport to the rail network which seems odd. Personally I’m happy with these plans

2/n and 7th largest to the network is long overdue and very welcome. A mass transit system for Leeds, the largest city in Europe without a mass transit system also overdue and welcome. I’m not as convinced by plans to massively expand capacity Leeds to Sheffield or the reduction

This might be an unpopular view but having read the Network North proposals cover to cover I believe there are many sensible proposals in it. A personal🧵from someone in the North who uses trains and buses regularly. Connecting Bradford, statistically the youngest city in the UK

MASSIVE thanks to The National Lottery Community Fund for the £250,000 grant they've given us to fund our new Ways to Wellbeing service. We can't wait to get started with this exciting service that will support hundreds of older people right across Leeds!
