Depends on the extent of the resection. I try not to use a prosthetic with any bowel or urologic resection. In big abdomen vessels, cryopreserved vessels work well since they are resistant to infection.

We will get a duplex to determine if we can avoid a venous reconstruction. For patients where the vein is already occluded, it makes the surgery easier.

I like to get a CT; most of my oncology colleagues get MRIs. If there is venous involvement, duplex to see if the veins are patent or can be taken without reconstruction.

We also do a venogram within 2 weeks after surgery. Always venoplasty after rib removal, there are frequently webs left even thought the vein looks ok on 2D venography.
