@michaelbolton

I solve testing problems that other people can't solve, and I teach people how they can do it too.

Structures in our societies, life, and work are structural, like a tree. When not maintained well, they start to rot.

Software bugs and problems are eating away our time and our productivity, like termites in a tree. When that starts happening, the rotting things fall over.

The City of Toronto, because of software, says that our home was vacant at some point in the previous year. No it wasn't. The software says that we owe $8000. No we don't, just like (apparently) thousands of other people who filled out the same forms and whose data was lost.

Inspired by Lee Marshall 🏴‍☠️ (Discord: thepiratetester) 's latest YouTube vid I'll say this again: Exploratory Testing as a focus over Test Automation is extremely valid. As the code focused ppl do the things that scale, you ALSO need a human with a systems thinking focus to keep an eye on the big picture.

I'm just gonna say it
I don't give half as much a fuck about foreign interference as I do domestic
We just had the Premier of Ontario and the leader of CPC try to put their thumbs on the scale of the Toronto mayor's race
CPC are legendary for domestic election cheating/ fraud

When David Miller T.O. became mayor, he had to use much of his first term gaining credibility that he as a 'lefty' wouldn't wreck the place. Well, we've seen what the right did and there is no excuse for Olivia to dawdle on her program. If the right doesn't like it, tough.

After 42 years or so of personal computer software, how do error messages like this survive even a moment of critical evaluation? (Answer: they receive no critical evaluation at all.)

Alas, better testing doesn’t *necessarily* lead to better software. But it can lead to better awareness of the state of the software. That in turn can help people to recognize problems in software, whereupon people can figure out how they might make it better.

Melanie Mitchell The concern with AI, with technology in general, is not some runaway AI doing something terrible. The real concern should be an AI, or other tech, doing something exactly as its creator intended, and that something being terrible.

I'm reading Yoshua Bengio's new blog post, 'How Rogue AIs may Arise'.

Mostly it's the same arguments as in earlier writings by Bostrom, Russell, etc.

Lots to say about all this but there's one issue I want to point out.

Many of us use for execution. Ben Simo (Ben Simo 🐋 @[email protected]) beautifully highlights the way he sees automation in testing:
