Why is aerobic capacity for team sports so important?

On a basic level, the greater an athlete's capacity, the higher the volume of training they can tolerate.

This research, from still well respected researchers, was in 2012. But didn’t seem to get much replication or traction.

It is lab based but never the less a very interesting study.

For anyone who researches this stuff, and I do on going 15 years now, this is not a surprise.…

Meath are a
Much improved side. Just a little naive with their kicks in.

1-7 from turnovers.

If they manage to kill the ball they have the KO defence to keep this a game for longer

Great to see this side of the game progress.

There are people involved in analysis that didn’t have another access into the game at an influential level (where you can actually support or affect a team or a game).

I’ve worked with quite a few analysts (including Niall as it…

As long as neuroscience talks about the brain as a machine or a computer and separated from the rest of our body then we have to continue to take all their lab studies (so out of context and relevant environments) with a gigantic punch of salt.

There is no way more money should be spent until we start seeing more municipal facilities
They see the writing on the wall too as they see a more progressive government down the road who probably won’t hand over money without challenge anymore

There is a lot money wasted on…

Martí Cañellas has a great way of putting things. I actually think English being his second language has a really nice cut to it.

“Learning just happens”.

“We learn regardless”

To me says…

The most common approach of sports science.

But what if previous “knowledge” is flawed, or just basically incorrect.

We have been totally wrong about how we learn sports skills (motor learning).

What else is flawed?

In a local context this was prevelant in our local sports.

Rural soccer didn’t look like Urban Soccer.
Limerick Rugby looked different to Cork rugby.
Even in the same place, Northside Hurlers looked and played differently to Southside teams and individuals in Cork City.

This is a practice I lifted straight to Gaelic Football. I think would be very useful in hurling also.
Why? Universal principles applicable to field sport.

I knew this would be useful but you don’t always know why. And of course you’ll adapt as you go.
