At Honolulu Airport Thrifty Car Rental @dollarcar counters. 12 counters. 9 of them are empty. Only 3 people working. On a Saturday afternoon. Line is hundreds of people deep and hours long. This is gross incompetence. Rent elsewhere.

Hey Qantas Airways USA and americanair - I booked a Qantas flight from SYD to HON on aa.com. The AA website tells me I have to go through Qantas to select seats. I called Qantas and they said American has to select my seats. I need to make sure I’m sitting w/ my wife.

Celebrating by rereading Flip the System. Is public education supporting our democracy? Is our democracy supporting public ed? So many excellent chapter topics from highly qualified teachers. My copy is highlighted and dog-eared! Michael Soskil (he/his)

Spent my snow day reorganizing my office bookshelves alphabetically by author and by topic (separating out some education reference books, travel books, and sci-fi paperbacks). From Aczel to Yukteswar.

This is so true! Top down never works in education and yet administrators keep trying it. Building based most often produces the best results! When building based happens, teachers are treated as knowledgeable professionals and collaboration is built in.

If you are crafting education policy, and you aren’t getting consistent feedback from current classroom teachers in multiple grade levels and in rural, urban and suburban settings, then what you are really creating is unintended consequences for our students and communities.

In the US we spend $54 per student on STEM & $0.05 per student on civics. We have a society that cant have rational policy discussions & sees violence as a political tool. Maybe being hyperfocused on developing human capital & good workers for the economy in schools isn’t ideal.

Unless teachers demand agency to determine ed policy & practice standards - & then have courage to shape them & hold ourselves accountable - we will not get the professional respect we desire.

Found this reading a used copy of Dewey’s “The Sources of a Science of Education.”
