NEW preprint: is a command-line tool for analyzing multiple sequence alignments and phylogenies.

Here, we detail for using PhyKIT to build supermatrices, quantifying biases/ therein, identifying putative radiations & so much more.

Following on from this, what do you all use if trying to mark work or exams of hundreds of students all learning (say) Python? i.e automated systems for marking+collecting results. Anyone used numbas.org.uk/blog/2022/02/a… ?

Here, researchers sequenced the of the closest relatives of land plants & found terrestrialization is associated w/ changes in multicellurity-related, signaling, & environmental response genes

BOOM.
Minnesota passed the most comprehensive native fish conservation law in the country

These species have long been loosely managed, with high harvest limits if any, little monitoring of population or research into their biology, reproduction & habitat stcroix360.com/2024/05/minnes…

Okay, this is seriously wonderful. Elephantnose fishes can generate electrical fields that reinforce the sensory abilities of all members of their social groups, rather than interfering with each other. Out today in Nature. nature.com/articles/d4158…

Museum folks know that blue and red ribbons are often designated for type specimens used in the description of new species (e.g holotype in blue; paratypes in red). I think we should use green ribbon for the vouchers of specimens whose whole genomes have been sequenced. Thoughts?
