But all those IAS officers report to the PM who is an OBC. And they all serve at the pleasure of the President who is a tribal. Can't recall that happening in the past.

The Modi government has achieved the right balance of productive and growth.
I write on 5 things everyone should know about redistribution before making up their minds.

Problem in India is that no taxes are abolished. Only new ones introduced. So inheritance tax, even if mild, will be above income tax. And then there will be evasion or avoidance. So, will fail in practice.

Eagerly await the views of Raghuram Rajan on the redistribution debate, particularly on Sam Pitroda's inheritance tax proposal and caste census based redistribution.

The West regretted the rise of Japan which was no military threat. When India reaches a critical mass in terms of economic power, the West will inevitably have regrets. Who likes rivals?
But India won't be like China and not just because of a difference in political systems.

In a democracy, govt is expected to be responsive to it's people. For too long, India's govts pandered to vested interests & left majority people poor. By challenging those interests and making govt truly responsive, Narendra Modi has proved himself a true democrat.

Modi's welfare policies and efficient execution have benefitted people of all castes, religion, region. And that is the way it should be. The thing they have in common is relative poverty. And that is what needs targeting.

PM Narendra Modi is not an autocrat, but a true democrat. From a government that, for long, was captured by narrow vested interests, we now have a government that responds to the aspirations of 1.4 billion Indians.

This 'right on resources' argument is a passe' redistribution-first one. Country needs to focus on growth and generate more resources. If we grow fast, there will be enough for everyone.
Opposition criticises government record on jobs but still stuck in an old, failed paradigm.

This CSDS survey suggests a better outcome for BJP in 2024 than 2019 because North and West vote share is essentially the same but significant improvement in South and East/North East. In fact, in South, BJP predicted vote share higher than Congress. Busting some myths.

Interesting that support for the BJP among all classes is double or almost double that of Congress.
PM Narendra Modi transcends traditional divides in his popularity.

Whether it is made in Germany or in India, the argument that India's debt GDP ratio is troublesome in nonsensical. As long as debt is invested productively and yields growth (happening in today's India), it is good for the country.

For politicos who want radical , here's a manifesto suggestion. Convert the entire Lutyens Bungalow Zone in New Delhi into affordable housing for the lower middle classes.
Like charity, redistribution should begin from home!

I always ask this question of those predicting India's long term success.
I don't believe it is agnostic of government and policy choices.
A government with the wrong policy priorities can stall progress.

It's not about being selfish but why should more and more taxpayers' money line the pockets of sundry middlemen and political hangers on. That's what happened in the 'leaky' Congress Raj.
