The 108th running of the is just 35 days away. The only top-4 finish for car #35 was in 1922, when JIMMY MURPHY won the race from the pole. Murphy was originally thought to have led every lap. He did lead the first 74 laps, the 3rd-longest such stretch in race history.

The quiet before the 1911 .

Think about these things from back then.

1. How did you get to the track?
2. What did you eat there?
3. What did you wear?
4. The thrill of 40 race cars.
5. Reading about the race in next day in the newspaper.
6. You saw Ray Harroun!

The 108th running of the is just 41 days away. Car #41's best finish is 6th, which has happened 3x. IMO, the most successful of those drivers was CHET MILLER, who was 7th at the halfway point in '41 and later moved up to 6th when WILBUR SHAW crashed out.

41 days til 108th Mile Race Indianapolis Motor Speedway 1941 #42 Russ Snowberger in the Jim Hussey Sportman's Club Special. 'Sip your drink under the spell of the Hammond Electric Organ'. No wall to wall televisions in those days. Snowberger finished 21st.

The 108th running of the is just 44 days away. DICK SIMON! drove car #44 6x, but he never finished better than 13th in it. 3 drivers finished 4th in #44; among that group, JIMMY VASSER in '01 was the strongest contender, so IMO, he was the most successful driver of #44.

The 108th running of the is just 45 days away. CLIFF BERGERE had the best finish in car #45 (5th in '37), but I think LOUIS MEYER had the most success, even though he only finished 12th in in '39. He led 79 laps and had a 2-lap lead before cutting a tire on the 183rd lap

Here's your annual reminder that starting the NCAA Men's National Championship game at 9:20 pm ET on a Monday is certifiably insane.
