As a former public radio host, what I can say about the audiences of public radio is that they are largely white, educated, employed and yes, left leaning. The staff I had was also well educated (Ivy adjacent schools), majority white and left leaning as well.

NPR is why I got into journalism. But it’s also partially why I left legacy media.

By 2018, Trump voters wouldn’t talk to me, and I didn’t blame them—we often painted them as racists. And if I ever booked a white man, I’d better have a reason why.

This is such a great program- nextgenradio working out of KCUR this week. Early career/ new to media - people like Rosie are learning how to tell human stories on line/on the radio. Rosie’s doing Alzheimer’s research now KU Medical Center but is excited about these new skills!

By me: 'Reporting and writing remain table stakes, but students now need to be equipped with skills that go beyond storytelling and lead to entirely different career paths, still within the confines of media and journalism.'
