Frank Hester's comments on Diane Abbott MP and Black women further legitimise already prevalent violence against Black women and girls, especially those in high-profile roles. 1/5
In recent years, a woman has been killed by a man every 3 days in the UK on average, and yet most of their stories have gone unheard. The The Guardian Killed Women Count project wants to help change that. Huge thanks to CountingDeadWomen for their vital work > theguardian.com/uk-news/ng-int…
We stand with Southall Black Sisters and others in opposing these changes. Short term support with limited to no routes for victims to apply for settlement will not encourage them to come forward. Both DDVC and DVILR need to be extended to all victims regardless of immigration status.
We were delighted to meet with the Reem Alsalem UNSR Violence Against Women and Girls yesterday to discuss the need for women only services, and for services to be commissioned in response to women’s needs. In great company.
