The idea for the declaration was devised earlier this month during the 1st ever female leadership retreat, which UN Development and the Joint Parliamentary Women’s Caucus hosted for female leaders from different sectors in #PapuaNewGuinea 🇵🇬.

Yesterday, we made history at the 2nd National United For Equality Summit as the Joint Parliamentary Women’s Caucus, consisting of women members of the #PNG Parliament & the #Bougainville House of Representatives, signed a joined declaration on the empowerment of women in PNG.

Our UNDP Resident Representative, Nicholas Booth, completed his 1st visit to #Bougainville yesterday!

At the end of his visit, Mr. Booth toured the Bougainville House of Representatives & met with the Attorney General of the Autonomous Bougainville Government, Hon. Ezekiel Massatt.

During a farewell ceremony hosted by the Vice President of Bougainville, Hon. Patrick Nisira, Nicholas Booth stated:

“I’ve been humbled to hear from so many people about how UN Development has supported them. I hope our partnership will yield more fantastic results in the coming years.”

So proud of our UNDP Papua New Guinea team in #Bougainville for winning the Good Design Award for Social Impact. Together with #Japan we are building peace by helping #women and #youth set up sustainable social enterprises.

Last year, UNDP gave its annual #EquatorPrize to MENCERTC, an Indigenous-led NGO based in #SimbuProvince , #PapuaNewGuinea 🇵🇬.

This August, we launched new energy systems in 2 secondary schools in #SandaunProvince , supported ~4000 victims of the #MtBaganaEruption in #Bougainville & trained #Hela women to prevent climate induced conflicts.
